Frequently Asked Questions
How much do violin lessons cost?
Violin lessons range in length from 45 minutes to hour long lessons. Of course, younger the child, may be better with a 30minu the lesson. More advanced students will require longer lessons. The cost of lessons are:
30min: $40
45min: $60
60min: $80
Do I need my own violin?
You will need to purchase (or hire) your own violin. If you're in search of a new violin, I will be more than happy to recommend reputable shops in the Brisbane area who will provide you with all your violin needs. A bit of caution is required if you're planning on buying a violin through gumtree or another second hand market place!
What size violin will I need?
Violins come in 9 different sizes to suit all arm lengths. The most common are the 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and 4/4 (or full size). Most string shops in Brisbane will be able to provide you with the perfect size instrument to fit you. I will happily suggest shops who are able to fit you with the perfectly sized violin.
Do you offer group lessons?
Unfortunately I do not offer group lessons, only private lessons. This is so I can cater the lesson to suit the individual. All children learn at different rates and often respond differently to directions.
Will I need to purchase my own music?
For the first few lessons no books will be required. During these lessons, we will work out what avenue/books are more suited to your learning style. Then you will need to purchase them. Of course, I will let you know the cheapest and best places to buy them from!
Do you put students through exams?
Yes, I will put students into exams if they're interested in doing them. My students have had great success in both AMEB and Trinity College exams.
Do you teach at the students home?
No, unfortunately I don't travel out to students homes to take lessons.
Can I sit in during my child's violin lessons?
In the first few lessons, this is perfectly fine and encouraged for students who are quite shy around strangers. Once they are more comfortable, then it is often better to have the child one-on-one. Some weeks, I will invite the parents into the room for either a mini performance or to discuss the practice goals of the student. Of course, parents are always welcome to pop in or contact me to discuss their child's progress!
Do you have a current blue card?
